The place is also known as Mankal (possibly from the Mahankali temple which still exists today inside the fort, and the festival of Bonalu of twin cities begin here).
Golkonda consists of four distinct forts with a 10 km long outer wall having 87 semi circular bastions; some still mounted with cannons, eight gateways, four drawbridges and number of royal apartments & halls, temples, mosques, magazines, stables etc, inside. I can say that the temple was very unique with it being covered with lots of rocks which are painted with some of the Gods pictures. I really enjoyed the clourfull aura it gave.
Another very interesting point of the Fort is the .Fateh Darwaza where can be experienced the fantastic acoustic effects, characteristic of the engineering marvels at Golkonda which was a very very incredible experience. You can hold your ear to the wall and hear what the person whom is 30 metres far away from you!! And then a hand clap at a certain point below the dome at the entrance reverberates and can be heard clearly at the 'Bala Hisar' pavilion which is quite far from the clapping point, the highest point almost a kilometre away. This acted as the warning note to residents in case of danger.
After around 7 pm there happens the Light and Sound Show (English Version) which you can learn alot about the Fort by sitting on a chair and watching how the marvelous lights dance on the fort, even though it is very touristic I can say that I enjoyed a lot.( Unlike Nicholas, who was sleeping all the session=)
